Anssi Tikanmäki's first contact with music for the theatre came in 1977, when he played keyboards at the Intimi Theatre in the musical "Cabaret" stage-directed by Jukka Kajava. He then moved on to the Finnish National Theatre, where
he spent two seasons as a pianist.
In 1990 Tikanmäki began composing stage music of his own. Since his first production - "Crime and Punishment" with the Musta Rakkaus theatre group
directed by Kaisa Korhonen - he has worked primarily with Kalle Holmberg, composing and producing sound effects for such plays as "The Road to Tampere", "The Unknown Soldier" and "Richard III" at the Tampere Theatre, the TTT-Theatre of Tampere, the Pyynikki Summer Theatre and the Finnish National Theatre.
His most recent theatre production has been for the Hämeenlinna City Theatre in 2002: a dramatised musical version of the novel "Here under the North Star" by Väinö Linna. The dramatisation was by Riku Suokas, the stage director was Hannu Tyhtilä and the lyrics were by Jukka Virtanen.
